Today makes 6 years that Jessica has been fashioning together her rare and attractive pieces and it’s an honor for us to have the opportunity to spotlight Jessica and advocate her work at Almost Classy designs.
Read on as Ms. Lisby took some time out from making her very creative jewelry and accessories to share a bit about how she started Almost Classy Designs and to give us motivation and advice on success Dirty South Club style!
What’s your name and what part of the Dirty South are you representing:
Jessica Lisby of Almost Classy Designs, Deep East Texas.
What do you do and what inspired you to do it:
I make one of kind accessories and wearable art. Mostly known for jewelry, but I also make wedding accessories, clothing, cell phone cases, hand bags and shoes. I’m inspired by the beauty I see in ordinary things, that most would consider trash. I LOVE giving life back to an old, broken, unloved piece of junk. Makes my heart happy.
Can you talk a bit about how you ended up getting into doing reimagined pieces of jewelry:
I used to have a small store in Canton, TX where I mostly sold vintage flair and over-hauled furniture. While working there, I attended a local auction and purchased a box of broken pocket watches. That’s when the first ACD jewelry was created. While at work I mocked up my Blue Eyed Owl at the front counter. I sold it before it was even finished. After that, I was addicted.

Where do you get the inspiration for your pieces? Is it from the original piece or do you just sort of flow as you are working with the piece:
Well, that just depends. I generally work in an environment that looks like a small tornado just hit. I see something that inspires me and I just go with it. Fitting pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle until it works. However, it is much harder when it is a custom order from a customer that has a general idea of what they want. This is a challenge, and I LOVE it!
How often do you release new pieces:
Often! I have moments of inspiration, and I might pump out several pieces in a day. I wear-test all my pieces for a week or longer. The hardest part for me is photographing the items. Luckily, in the last year I have met several fashion photographers and models that are happy to oblige.
Do you have any immediate plans to get your pieces in other stores or will you stay exclusive at your site for now:
I have been in a couple high end boutiques and art galleries in Texas. I am always looking for new places to carry my line. I also travel to as many markets as I can, not just to get my art out, but because I absolutely love it
Do you do custom pieces of any sort:
YES!! I live to turn your granny’s old tacky clip-on earring into something you will want to wear. I make all sorts of custom orders, money clips, shadow boxes, and adore wedding design. Recently, I made a custom Coca Cola phone case for celebrity Neon Hitch. I currently have 2 orders for my Texas designs and a scorpion, which will be the first one.

What do you hope people will appreciate most about your pieces:
Originality first, I never make the same thing twice. Quality second, I work hard to make sure that an ACD piece can be worn for a lifetime, so I offer a lifetime guarantee on all my jewelry.
Best business or personal advice you’ve ever received:
When someone shows you who they are, believe them.
Any words of advice or encouragement for those who wish to follow in your footsteps:
Don’t be surprised if you end up doing something completely different than what you set out to do. Allow yourself the grace to grow into your full potential. There are no mistakes in art! If it doesn’t feed your soul, don’t do it!
How do you define success:
The ability to make your own dreams come true.
What are your plans or goals in the near future:
I plan to stay in East Texas until my youngest graduates in 2022. Then, I plan to hit the road and let my gypsy flag fly high.
What do you like to do for fun:
I enjoy thrifting more than just about anything. I also enjoy experimenting with new types of art.
Where can the people find you online:
What do you love most about the Dirty South:
It’s home! I love the outdoors and East Texas is gorgeous. I live in a tiny house in the woods, where I also create. I spend many hours on my front porch, in my vintage porch swing, with a cup of coffee, just enjoying my peaceful yard and life.
