Today’s D$C spotlight goes to comedian Darien “BigSkinny” Standifer. It has been incredible to watch the comedic pursuits of this D$C member as he lives out his dream pushin’ jokes. Read on as the ‘Joke Dealer’ goes deeper than the jokes and shares what he loves most about the Dirty South and blesses us with motivation to keep grinding and pursue our dreams!
What’s your name and where are you from:
My name is Darien Standifer and I am from Ruston, Louisiana.
What do you do and what inspired you to do it
I am a comedian and I was inspired by the different books I was reading. I was inspired by being around positive people and watching them grow in life. And most of all what inspired me was my children. They make me want to be better because I encourage them and it’s just like, I have to lead by example.
Best business or personal advice you’ve ever received:
The best business or personal advice I’ve ever received was to just stick to my roots. No matter how things might seem as a comedian; when I go out on stage no matter if I do good or do bad, just bounce back up there as if that last one never happened. And you know you just get better and better at it as time goes on!
What do you like to do for fun:
I love to make people smile. Bring joy to people’s lives. No matter how life might get you down, a lot of people be in a rut. It’s like, it makes me feel good to know that I can make someone laugh, make their day.
Any words of advice or encouragement for those who wish to follow in your footsteps:
It’s never too late. It’s never too late to follow your dreams; your passion in life. You just have to get with it because I know life can be hard sometimes but when you stick with your dreams; something that you can never stop thinking about? It could always happen. It’s never too late!
What’s your next move or plans in the near future:
I’m going to enter a contest for the funniest comedian. Yes, I’m hoping to win it, but it’s like I join things and sign up for things to challenge myself to make me want to do better and be better at the same time. I’m not afraid to go up against nobody. So, as I got this next contest coming up, I’ve got another show coming up maybe another month after that. Just trying to get this ball rolling and being consistent with it.
What do you love most about the Dirty South:
What I love most about the Dirty South is that cookin’ baby. Yeeeuuup, I love that cookin’! I can whip it real hard myself and I was taught an early age that good soul food. That’s what I love most about the South!
