In today’s Dirty South Club spotlight we give a little shine and our #WCW honors to a woman whose smile can light up any room and entrepreneurship can inspire & motivate us all. Dorothy Amin, founder and CEO of NūLeos, wants to let women know with their insecurities and minor imperfections that they’re still fabulous!
Because of Dorothy’s desire and motive to inspire women and encourage them to be confident in their own skin, we wanted to make her a part of the D$C family. We are all for anyone who has made it their mission to uplift others through what they do. Read on as we take the opportunity to hear from the mind behind the NūLeos designs, Dorothy Amin.
What’s your name and where are you from:
Dorothy Amin Modabberi from Dallas, TX.
What do you do and what inspired you to do it:
I am the creator of NūLeos, bodysuits for the everyday contemporary woman. After graduating from Parsons School of Design in 2008, during the recession, I knew once the economy turned around I would make my way back into the fashion industry.
My dad and I were talking about the plan for NūLeos on a regular basis before he was suddenly diagnosed with cancer November 2013, and unfortunately passing away by the end of the month. I vowed that I would turn that tragedy into a triumph, and a year to the date of my dad’s death anniversary I launched NūLeos website. I am inspired by his strength, and will continue to pursue my dreams. I live like there is no tomorrow.
Best business or personal advice you’ve ever received:
The answer is always No if you don’t ask!
What do you like to do for fun:
I am obsessed with traveling. I love experiencing different parts of the world every chance I get. I also love spending time with friends and family. They are the ones that keep me grounded and keep me moving forward.
Any words of advice or encouragement for those who wish to follow in your footsteps:
Just step out on faith, and take the chance. Take it one step at a time, and keep moving forward. Don’t shy away from starting small. Just start! Rome wasn’t built in a day. There will be ups and downs and haters, but concentrate on the ups and the people that encourage you. If you fail the first time simply examine what worked and what didn’t, and try again.
What’s next for you or what are you working on that we can look out for:
My commitment to the community, and female empowerment is just scratching the surface. I am determined to make the communities around me a better place. I want little girls everywhere to know the sky is the limit no matter the circumstances. The only way we can progress as a whole is to be a resource to each other.
As for NūLeos, the new collection should be out the start of 2017. We will continue to focus on the community by donating a portion of sales to non-profit organizations.
What do you love most about the Dirty South:
Even though I know all women are amazing, women in the South have a certain “it” factor that I don’t think you can get anywhere else. There is nothing like a Southern Belle.
