Talking Mixed Media Art and More with Artist Sophia Buddenhagen

In today’s Dirty South Club spotlight we give a little shine to artist Sophia Buddenhagen. Sophia, whose works are inspired by her travel and life experiences, believes art is a way to help people expand upon their creativity and become more aware of the world and people around them. When exploring her work, there is a vibrant energy that radiates from her pieces taking on a life of their own.

I reached out to Sophia and asked if she would take some time to share a little bit about her and her work with us and she agreed. Read on as she opens up about the best advice she’s received, what she likes to do for fun and what she loves about the Dirty South.

What’s your name and where are you from:

Sophia Buddenhagen. That is the question of my life! I was born in Germany, my mom is from Greece and migrated to Australia when she was young, my dad is from New York. I was raised in different parts of Africa, Trinidad & Tobago then moved to the states in High School. I have been in Texas for 21 years but mostly feel at home when I travel to other countries. So to answer the question I call myself a child of the universe!

What do you do and what inspired you to do it:

I paint mixed media paintings inspired from my travels and people I meet along this journey called life.

Best business or personal advice you’ve ever received:

Just keep doing what you love!

What do you like to do for fun:

Painting, listening to live music, hiking, surfing, traveling and eating good food!

Any words of advice or encouragement for those who wish to follow in your footsteps:

Do what you love and don’t think twice about it.

What’s next for you or what are you working on that we can look out for:

Watch out for my next trip and see what inspires me! I have a few good ones coming up this year!

What do you love most about the Dirty South:

Being able to hop in my car and drive to the beach or out to the country to just chill and relax in wide open spaces!

Take a moment before you go to stop by and visit Sophia’s website and see more of her works.
